As the crisp autumn air begins to settle in, I find myself looking forward to adventures in leaf-peeping and forest-bathing. There is something incredibly grounding and comforting about watching the earth gracefully let go of the old to make room for the new.
It reminds me of one of my favorite Rumi quotes,
“Try not to resist the changes that come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?”
Change can be daunting, and sometimes downright scary. Be it a shift in the seasons, a transition in your career, or an unexpected turn in your personal journey, we humans are seemingly hard-wired to fear change. But what if we stopped viewing change as a disruptor of our peace and started seeing it as an invitation to expand?
Here are three simple ways to anchor yourself and find joy during times of transition:
- Practice Active Letting Go. Just like the autumn trees drop their leaves without anxiety, ask yourself what thoughts, habits, or expectations you need to release this season to lighten your emotional load.
- Immerse Yourself in Nature. Spend quiet moments alone watching the leaves dance in the wind, breathing in the scents of the season or simply walking through a local park. Let the movement of nature in the midst of transition reassure you that everything has its own divine timing.
- Reclaim Your Daily Joy. Don’t wait for perfect conditions to open your heart. Reclaim your joy in the small things—a warm cup of morning coffee, a beautiful sunset, or a few pages of an inspiring book.
Let’s welcome the changes ahead with open arms and open hearts.
How are you finding joy in your life today? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
